Future Health Professional for Reproductive Right (FHPRR)

Mission/Purpose:

Our aim is to make comprehensive reproductive healthcare a standard part of medical education and residency training by providing direct learning opportunities in family planning, including abortion, and reproduction justice. Additionally, we believe that open dialogue amongst our peers encourages mutual understanding and thus we seek to create safe venues to exchange ideas about reproductive health.

Gastroenterology Interest Group

Mission/Purpose:

The mission of the Gastroenterology Interest Group is to foster awareness and interest in the field of Gastroenterology. The GI Interest Group will provide both educational and volunteer opportunities for those students interested in pursuing a career in GI. It is our goal to give students a look into the life of a GI doctor so that they can better understand what a career in GI is like. We also plan to keep students up to date on the latest GI news and research. In addition to enhancing student knowledge, it is our hope to create an environment where COM students can connect with Gastroenterologists to discuss their passion and interest in this field of medicine.

Geriatric Interest Group

Mission/Purpose:

The purpose of the Geriatrics Interest Group is to promote interest in the field of aging and geriatric medicine at UAMS. The GIG welcomes the involvement of students and professionals from various disciplines concerned with the care of the geriatric community, with the purpose of enhancing the multiple dimensions of geriatric health through education, scientific or technological innovation or community service. Therefore, membership and participation is open to all students from different colleges across UAMS campus who are interested in the study of aging. Members of the GIG also have the opportunity to join the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) and other geriatric-related groups, which provide additional opportunities to attend informative meetings and conferences. The primary focus of the GIG activities is to meet the needs of the geriatric community in Arkansas and improve the quality of life of seniors through student-geriatric-involvement.

Rural Ophthalmology Optometry Treatment and Screening (ROOTS)

Sports Medicine Interest Group

Mission/Purpose:

The aim of the Sports Medicine Volunteer Program (SMVP) is to expose the UAMS students to the expansive fields of operative and non-operative Sports Medicine while enabling the students to assist sports medicine physicians with the care of the team or even participants. Students will gain first-hand knowledge of sports-related injuries and related pathologies, while simultaneously aiding the covering sports medicine physician to optimize all facets of care for the athletes.

Ultrasound Interest Group

Mission/Purpose:

The purpose is to support and enhance the academic goals of the university. The USIG is a program designed to build leadership in the use of understanding of ultrasound technology, specifically at the patient bedside or point-of-care. Mission/Purpose:

The purpose shall be to inspire and encourage female medical students to pursue careers in surgery and surgical sub-specialties. Mission/Purpose:

The purpose of the organization shall be to develop interdisciplinary healthcare through patient care teams represented by students of UAMS; to provide free medical services to the citizens of the Little Rock Promise Neighborhood and surrounding communities; to serve as a liaison between the student body and the administration of UAMS; bringing to the forefront the issues and concerns of students. Our mission is to create an interprofessional student-run free health care that focuses on improving access to healthcare for Little Rock Promise Neighborhood residents while improving the clinical and educational skills of the students at UAMS. Our vision is to foster an environment of interprofessional education for all students, to provide respect and knowledgeable patient care, to continue the expansion of our services to meet the needs of Promise Neighborhood community, and to remain student-run.
