American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) 

Mission/Purpose: 

The purpose of the AADMD is to assist in reforming the current system of healthcare so that no person with a neurodevelopmental disorder is left without access to quality health services. The organization hopes to prepare clinicians to face the unique challenges in caring for people with ND/ID, provide curriculum to newly established ND/ID training programs in professional schools in the nation, and to increase the body and quality of patient-centered research regarding those with ND/ID and to involve parents and caregivers in this process. The AADMD also aims to create a forum in which healthcare professionals, families and caregivers may exchange experiences and ideas with regard to caring for patients with ND/ID, to disseminate specialize information to families in language that is easy to understand, and establish alliances between visionary advocacy and healthcare organizations for the primary purpose of achieving better healthcare.

Sports Medicine Interest Group 

Mission/Purpose: 

The aim of the Sports Medicine Volunteer Program (SMVP) is to expose the UAMS students to the expansive fields of operative and non-operative Sports Medicine while enabling the students to assist sports medicine physicians with the care of the team or even participants. Step 1 Student Preparation Group 

Mission/Purpose: 

TO bring students together to work higher number of Step 1-style questions with the goal of identifying weaknesses, improving test-taking skills, increasing stamina, and decreasing stress associated with standardized testing. To create a welcoming support group of students working towards the same goal in order to alleviate isolation, prevent potential procrastination, and promote collaboration among peers. UAMS Simulation in Medicine (SIM) 

Mission/Purpose: 

To cultivate the personal and professional growth of students in the UAMS COM who are interested in improving clinical, analytical, and communication skills through practicing for and competing in simulation competitions. Students will be taught diagnostic, teamwork and reasoning skills from guest physicians vis the use of simulation cases and practice these skills during meetings. Ultrasound Interest Group 

Mission/Purpose: 

To support and enhance the academic goals of the university. Designed to build leadership in the use and understanding of ultrasound technology, specifically at the patient beside or point-of-care. Through education and mentorship, the main goal is to teach and encourage proper use of Point-of Care Ultrasound as a practical tool for clinicians across numerous medical specialties.

Families Relationships and Medical Education (FRAME)

Mission/Purpose:

The mission of the Families Relationships and Medical Education Interest Group is to create a group to help students navigate life’s milestones as a medical student, resident, and physician. Medical education and training falls at a critical time during which students face unique struggles such as entering serious relationships, getting married, and starting families while balancing school and work responsibilities. Climate and Health Interest Group (CHIG)

Mission/Purpose: 

To work towards combating climate change and its impact on human health. Living in the Natural State, we must appreciate our natural environment and respect the role it plays in our everyday lives. Additionally, as Arkansas’ future healthcare providers, we have a unique responsibility to address health issues related to the climate crisis. Through education and service, we hope to better inform the COM community of how climate change specifically influences public health and help identify innovative ways to mitigate these impacts as we progress towards a more sustainable future.
